The number of new technologies and the time to implementation has significantly sped up. Now you may have only a few years before your major competitors are offering more and better services at a lower cost than you.  Start-up companies that are well funded by venture capital are moving quickly to disrupt older established industry businesses. Company leaders that dominated an industry for 20+ years can be replaced in only a few years.
